Cagbalete Island – Mauban, Quezon

I thought our last holiday this summer was the whole day trip to Laguna’s hot spring resort. But my brother-in-law and his family invited us (hubby and me) to join them for a two-day and one-night stay at an island resort in Quezon province an almost 4-hour road travel from the city and 45-minutes by boat from Mauban port to the island of Cagbalete.

The name of the resort is Villa Noe Beach with cottages, playing area for volleyball, cooking area and seats at the beach to relax.

The sand is powdery white with blue crystal water. Though it was already June, there were still many tourists in the island, the water is shallow, just waist deep so you can see what’s underneath and kids could swim freely up to a kilometer without worry of getting into the deep, it’s clean except for seaweeds but there was no fish to catch if you are planning to do some fishing like hubby and B-I-L who both brought their fishing gears assuming they’ll gonna have a good time, lol..

For accommodation we had a big cottage good for 20 people though we are just 13, no electricity from 6am to 6pm as they are using generator for power supply. With only 2 electric fans for the whole house is not enough to cool us all down, finding it hard to sleep, we had a toddler who was crying all night because of this. My nephews and their friends put up tents on the beach and enjoyed the ocean breeze the whole evening, a big contrast from us in the cottage, 🙁

Low tide – boats cannot reach the shore of the beach (click photo for bigger view)

During Low tide where guests has to walk to the resort from the boat and vice versa (click photo for bigger view)

Another downside was the low tide which happens starting 9 am where water is slowly subside and finally dried up until 2pm where you can actually walk on the sand as part of the shore, some of the tourists going home had to walk long distance to reach their boat that was almost in the middle of the beach carrying all their things. But in the afternoon the tide starts to go high again and you can enjoy the sea until the next morning.

If you plan to stay there for a longer period, bring water for drinking and raw food for cooking, there is a cooking area provided just bring coal for fire. Though there are stores there where you can buy but twice of the regular price which is understandable as they get their supplies from across the island. There are also locals who sell fresh seafood much cheaper from the market in the town.

All in all, the island is serene and beautiful, a good place to unwind and relax and be near with nature, wished we could have stayed longer.

Accommodation/amenities in the island:

  • Cottage – Php 4,000 for 2 days and one night – fan-room with bamboo beds – common CR for all the guests of the resort – abundant water supply (not for drinking), cooking area, volleyball. Caretakers clean the area every morning
  • boat rentals Php 2,500 back and forth (from the town port to the island and vice-versa with maximum capacity of 14 pax)
  • You can book online – just google the name of the resort.

By the way, there are also other resorts in the island, hubby and I made an afternoon walk along the beach and half of the island along the shore.

Accomodation Preference

Whenever our family is going out of town and looking for a place to stay in a resort. One of my preference is to have an individual bathroom for our accommodation. I always make sure that our stay will be as comfortable as possible since that’s our main goal for doing so. I always prefer a cottage that have a complete amnesties like kitchen and bath even if doesn’t have a clawfoot tub as long as it’s clean and comfortable.  Because there are resorts that offer rooms with no bath, they have a common bath  located outside though, it’s not my kind of  relaxation.
